headaches

Headache

Bleach. I've got a headache today. Hate those bloody things. You know the ones where they aren't quite enough for you to think - fuck it, i'll not go in to work today - but they still just sit there above your temples and at the bottom of the occiput. Anyway, this one is a bit annoying because it isn't responding nicely to painkillers, and that's really the worst kind of headache. I hate those fuckers.

Still, must not grumble eh? Stiff upper lip and all that.

So, I'm looking for a netbook. Quite fancy the samsung NC10, but I'm not sure it's worth all that money for it. Maybe a dell mini - anyone have any opinions? See, the thing is for the kind of money an NC10 is, you can practically get a fully fledged laptop. Netbooks are kind of like lingerie, the more you pay, the less you get :)

Google Privacy Policy Change

Behaviouraladvertising

So, today, in my adsense account, I got an email from google about their new behavioural adverts.
Behavioural adverts you say....what are those? Well, google plan to remember what you do on the web, where you go, what you buy. You know, reasonably privacy invading stuff. Erm by plan to, I mean already do. Now, the second part to their attempt to completely change the face of advertising is to offer up adverts to you based on what you already do in the internet. So, you will be lumped into a category. Maybe a "sports enthusiast" because you visit sports illustrated's swimsuit edition website on a daily basis ;). Then the big G will start tailoring the adverts that get displayed to you based on a cookie they will be storing on your computer. Read the bbc's article about it here.

Interesting. I wonder if the behavioural adverts will be consistent across all subject areas. So if I'm a sports enthusiast and I browse to a site about satellite television simply because I'm interested in buying a panasonic viera TH-42PZ81B, would they then still display sports based adverts, or will they continue, as they do now, to serve up adverts based on the site content. This has implications for those who build sites for adsense clicks alone, because it could once again render writing decent content and understanding how to target content based on latent semantic indexing irrelevant to the whole gig. All you would need to do is get enough throughput of people like in the good old days. That would be cool!
